Renaissance masterpieces: the exhibition of Paolo Veronese

The exhibition "The illusion of reality" dedicated to Paolo Caliari, known as Paolo Veronese, will be open until 5th October at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia in Verona; this Renaissance painted has been able to represent, better than anyone else, the sumptuous feasts of the Venetian aristocracy of his time through allegories and mythological stories.

His name is at the center of a rediscovery path, in fact, the exhibition collects together approximately 100 paintings from all over the world, originating from prestigious museums such as the National Gallery in London, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Louvre in Paris!

Visiting this exhibition is an opportunity to better understand the context in which the greatest masterpieces of Veronese were born (especially the painting The Feast in the House of Levi, restored for the occasion); the artist, in his paintings, captured the brightness of Veneto and the refined architecture that distinguish Verona.

Among the events related to the exhibition, we recommend the churches of Verona itinerary, to see the others artworks hosted at the Church of S. Giorgio in Braida and St. Paul's Church in Campo Marzio, open to the public from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm, or the route across the entire Veneto region, to discover the other places where there are frescoes and paintings by Veronese.

There are 5 exhibitions dedicated to this great artist of the Renaissance: if you're planning a trip long enough you could make a stop in Vicenza, at Palladio Museum, in Padua at the Musei Civici degli Eremitani, in Castelfranco Veneto at the Museo Casa Giorgione, finally in Bassano del Grappa at Palazzo Sturm, or choose one of the 32 suggested itineraries on the website

About the activities related to the exhibition at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia, we recommend to those who want to enjoy a hands-on workshop the course about colour preparation techniques used in the XVI century Venetian workshops, the activity is free and is available on the following dates: 7th, 14th , 21st, and 28th September and 5th October.

Through art we can get in touch with the inner soul of a place, this is what happens in Verona, where people are greeted with a selection of artworks that describe it more faithfully than a photograph or a movie.
